The rule of thumb advises just that.

At least. If you can size a few to .433 and they work well there will be no harm. And they may even do better.....

I prefer .433 in mine

are you talking about a revolver cause you may want to consider diameter in relation to the throats as well. for my 44 I have the bullets finger push tight in the throats and 1-1.5 thou over bore diameter which is lucky and works well for me. if the throats are abnormally smaller or larger youd have to look further into optimizing for that. I never had that problem so I cant give advise there but wanna make sure you cover your bases.

it is a henry 44 rifle. .430 causes huge leading problem

ok, ya .432 should be good most likely, im assuming your lapping your sizer larger? if so id go .432 first check leading, and maybe catch one and check sides of bullet for gas cutting, it that don't work yet go half thousandth till happy because you cant go back and make it smaller.

if your mold/molds dont throw big enough to size down you could powder coat for extra size. I also had good results paper patching pure lead cast undersize in my 44 levergun with a .431 bore and paper fills and keeps the bore clean. just throwing options incase needed, most molds don't throw big enough to size down to .432 or .433

I had a Henry Big Boy in 44 Magnum/44 Special .430" 240 grain swc's were regularly key-holing at 16 yards - flat out side ways often.

I took a chance and got in 500 Oregon Trail laser cast .431" 240 grain swc's and the problem was solved. Went from a 6" or bigger group at 16 yards to 3/4" of an inch. Best load was with 6.5 grains of Unique. No leading either. Also was quite accurate in my Ruger SA 44 Special 4".

FWIW; SAAMI specs. for 44 Magnum barrels is .431" groove diameter. I don't know why. My Puma was .001" over spec so I use .433" bullets. I didn't have a sizer larger than .433" so I tried that diameter and so far it's working, but I was going to try .434"...

Since you did not state it, is the .431" the groove diameter?...not the lands.

I agree, .001-.002 larger that groove diameter usually works well.

Going by that even though the Oregon Trail was .431", it still worked just fine for me, but that fact that it was very hard cast also may have been a factor in accuracy.
