These are some of my favorite to collect. So much valuable information in them.

I got a 1972 Shooters Bible for Christmas, and spent many hours dreaming of owning all those wonderful guns, and all the classic loading gear. Still enjoy looking through it 47 years later

Wouldn’t it be nice if those prices were the same today?

I collected them yearly, and the Gun Digest, until just a few years ago. I've got an entire bookcase full of them. The ones you've displayed are some of the more difficult to find. The one with the goat on the cover was one of the first I acquired. Neat books, for certain. If you can get one printed during or just after WW II it's interesting to see how many guns are pictured and priced, but say "Not Available For The Duration."

Kind of like the old Christmas catalog when you were a kid.

So far the 1940 is the oldest edition I have. I love reading them. They are invaluable for gun sight research.

You're looking through the telescope of time the wrong way; those prices wouldn't look so nice if your income today was also the same as then. Fact is, in terms of an average worker's hourly wages then and now, most things are better made and less "costly" today, sometimes much less costly.

I’ll go with less “costly” but will have to disagree with “better made”.

Believe it or not, I carried a then-current 1955 edition to junior high school when I was a freshman. Imagine the uproar if a kid did that today.

Why were MinerJohn's pictures taken down? I'm used to seeing that with old Photobucket pictures but not Imgur.

You would have to ask John that, it's something only he controls.

The oldest one I have is 1926. A lovely thing to look at the original Mauser rifles.
I have Shooters Bibles from 1926 thru 1972, some in multi copies and all from gun shows over a very long time of searching..I have purchased someone's collection just to get one hard to find copy then sold off the duplicate copies. Ebay was great for this but also gun shows.. They are so much fun to read but their real value to me is the info they provide if being a serious collector and or shooter of old firearms, specially all the different gun sights and early scopes that were available and which ones were proper for my firearms. To all who own them, enjoy and protect them, they are becoming very hard to find and pieces of our hobbies great American history..
