Sweet! Start with 13.0 gr Red Dot or 16.0 gr 2400. Those are more or less universal loads for cast with cases at 7x57 capacity or more. Works for me in everything from 7x57 to 35 Whelen.

With the Lee 185 (cast of an alloy with BHN of 15+ - something like Lyman #2 alloy) try 28 gr of 4895 with a Dacron filler (3/4 gr). Velocity will be in the mid 1800 fps.

My three best loads for my FN mauser 30-06 (ex 1952 Columbian contract), which I believe is identical to yours, are:
20.2 grains AR2205 (H4227) behind 311291
20.5 grains IMR4227 behind 311291
19 grains SR4759 behind 311291.
In all cases the bullet was sized 0.311", nose 0.300, with a Lyman slip-on gas check. Groups at 50 metres were 16-18 millimetres. However I haven't achieved consistency with the group size, and don't yet know why. SR4759 gives better consistency than either kind of 4227. A dacron filler makes things worse, so far. I need to work with more consistent bullet hardness, probably around 18 BHN, among other things. I've done quite a few tests with the Lee C309170F (sized 311, nose 304) bullet but I've never had a decent group from it.

You are probably aware of FN's unusual approach to bore size (0.299 bore, 0.310 groove). I've been told they used the same barrel for 7.5 Swiss, and this was the reason for the strange size. Seems to me it explains the bore, but not the groove.

Seems to me it explains the bore, but not the groove.Doesn't explain either one, the nominal 1911 Swiss bore dimensions (to which they held very closely) were .297" bore, .307" groove. (K-31 nominal dimensions were .296" bore, .307" groove.) I've not seen any reference to FN having supplied barrels for the Swiss during the period from 1911 on, either. Perhaps they made the .299/.310" barrels for the French 7.5x55mm MAS?

Cool rifle I have one too, except someone decided on dirlling and tapping the reciver, and cut down the hump to fit those darn over under rings, lucky enough, they left the iron sites alone , well heres the good stuff, I've been shooting ww's and unique out of mine , except For some wild reason i hve to really stick my projectiles, .311413, lee's 200 grainers, 311264, but it really shines with the .311466, the ogave on the others was not letting me keep the boolit out and just touch the lands. oh well, but now she's doing fine, this rifle also likes God forbid noslers 165 bt's, and hey emc45 i'm still kicking bud and getting ready to put some deermeat inthe freezer this weekend hoping to get a supply before the november zombie attack.(grin). kjg
