This has probably been done before, but here it is. I was trying to make a chamber impression of my 45-70 Handi-rifle. I was using the same rod I used for the 357 Maxi with no luck. It was too small (5/16), it simply drove itself into the slug instead of obdurating the slug into the chamber. To make a long story short, after playing around with what I had on hand, I slipped a 357 Mag case over the end of the rod. The rim of the case fit the bore perfectly and the brass couldn't hurt my bore either. I had very little lead get by it and the impression came out good. My throat is a little oversize, but the impression itself was good.
