This is a barrel that i bought second hand but it sure is a shooter with the 350 grain Ranch Dog boolits.I shot two then adjusted the scope into the bull, then a three shot group thtas just over 1.25"

this SSK barrel will also shoot jacketed bullets with the best of them
no deer will be safe this year:mrgreen:

Looks good. Should knock the snot out of our MI deer eh. Hows the recoil, I havent ever shot a 45-70 handgun. My 454 is pretty snappy though.

Love those RD bullets, my 30 caliber RD seems to shoot good in ally 30's, I dont even have a Marlin lever gun.

that bullet must be about made for a contender. Ive got a contender carbine with a 4570 barrel i had cut to 17 inch and struggled for a long time with accuracy using it. I was seriously contenplating dumping it. Just out of curiousity i ordered that mold. I had never tried a ranch dog mold and to be honest was pretty skeptical. Im not a big fan of tumble lubed bullets. Well it sure surprised me when it shot a 2 inch 100 yard group. I was lucky to shoot a 4 inch 50 yard group with any other bullet.

I like the Ranch Dog boolits better than any other design ive tried,in fact ive sold all my other molds and only shoot Ranch Dog cast. The 35 Ranch Dog shoots awesome from my 357max SSK Contender and this 350 grainer from a 45-70 is a real thumper!I dont have a Marlin lever gun either but why would i ever need one when a Contender shoots so good?

How are pressure signs with that load of 4759. Just wondering, as that is not a load area covered by any of my manuals? My alloy produces a boolit at 378 grains SL, is that about the same for you?

How about the 357 boolit? Is that a 180 or 220 grainer. Over time I tend to forget which boolit(s) go with which designer.

I would love to see a post with pics and specs of all of the different GBs.

im alittle over by one grain of any listed data with no pressue signs at all.The fired brass will just fall from the chamber.I think im going to drop back some , i dont want to stretch my frame

the 35 cal Ranch Dog boolit i shoot weights in at 192 grains and i push that one too

i like cast boolits because you can push them harded without a big rise in pressue like you get with a jacketed bullet

I ahve been using T/C and SSK barrels on my Contenders for many years now. The RD 30 cal bullet TLC311-165-RF works great in my Conternder 30/30. I use the 44 and 45 cal RDs in my 44 Mag, 444 Marlin 45 Win Mag and 45-70 barrels. I have to scrunch the 460 boolit thru my 452 sizer to make it work well in the 45 Win Mag.

You can also use the RD 44 and 45 bullets with a Sabot in your muzzle loaders, they work great there also.

RD boolits are great but remember, you do NOT have to tumble lube them. I use Felix on them and my .44 put 5 in 3/4" at 100 yd's.
Did I tell you that I hate lee snot?

yes you told me that before 44man but i bought a gallon of it from the alox group buy.i dont mind the stuff.i get a nice lube star on the muzzle of my 45-70 and my 357max barrel and no leading and i push the hell out of those boolits

i shot again this morning and i will have a nice 5 shot group to show.four are under an inch but the fifth one is out just alittle but not by much.i backed off with the sr4759 and i get good groups with a 30 grain charge but when i worked up again from that the 33 grain charge shot the best.i guess the 33 grain charge is the pet load for this barrel but the recoil is right up there.i also shot a nice 10 shot group at 100 this morning with my 357max to show a guy that PMed me about shooting the 35cal Ranch Dogs but the pictures will have to wait till tomorrow,my wife has the camera and shes on the road right now.

Groo here
Jeff I have an SSK 45-70 .
Is yours chambered for rhe 500 gr bullets???
IF you contact SSK they will send you loading data.
I put Horndy 500 gr soft points through mine and you would have though there was a
guidance system in the bullet == three touching at 100yds, but what a kick!!!!!!
