I want to shoot up some .454 dia. 250gr and 300gr lead projectiles I already have cast for my .45 colt in my 50 cal. inline. Can sabots be bought seperate?.
I only have a .454 sizer. I tried a 300gr .454 bullet in a sabot I pulled off of a Hornady .451 bullet, and I noticed the sides bulged pretty good, I didn't try to load it this way. Will sabotted lead and j-words shoot to the same poi if they weigh the same?

Try some Harvester Crushed Rib .50/.45 sabots http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=00072H15045BR

or some MMP 3-petal HPH series - 3Petal-EZ http://mmpsabots.domainhost.com/store/page6.html

Those might be thin enough as they are the thinnest walled sabots readily available for .45 bullets in a .50 bore. If not, the only remaining sabot that might work for you is the MMP Orange sabot for .457/.458 bullets in a .50 caliber bore (on that same page at MMP). If your rifle's bore is tight (.500 land to land or even less) I might choose to go directly to the orange sabots OR buy a .451 sizing die and put it to use.

Here is an idea that I was thinking of. Why not take some waxed freezer paper, the kind you wrap meat in; and paper patch the undersize slug incorporating the powder charge into one neat package.

They would make quick convienant reloads while hunting. You cound preroll various powder charges and various wieght Booliets for divverent size game.

Colour code them with a sharpie. Blue soft: Green Medium, Red hot and Black Magnum
