I picked up an older Wilson trimmer - bent handle vs. right angle handle. On case holder it came with is marked 276 P. Anyone have an idea on what this is used for?
All I can find in that caliber is .276 Pederson. The co. website doesn't list a comparable caliber.

Thanks. (And first post - just getting started with this reloading thing)

Yep, 276 pederson would be the only "factory" round. But the pleothora of 276 rounds that were experimented with in the first half of the last century could have your markings be an example of one of those.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190126/5cc3c93fb545b193cc212c642b09daab.jpg

Thanks. I've seen articles about the govt looking at this when the M1 was being developed.
Also came with a .257 ROBT & 7mm case holder.

234694Maybe I need to look into one of those!! My Lyman ended up with fried bearings after <50 pieces of brass. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190126/7588f4bf067479be988db41b00eb0799.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190126/a35df66662d7a7e6f03fea5371d1ac20.jpg

As I understand it, the Garand was well on the way to being developed with the .276 Pedersen round and MacArthur, who was the procurement boss at the time stepped in and mandated a change in development to 30-06. His reason, the Army had way too much 30-06 ammo in stock and it would be a waste of valuable resources to abandoned it. It might be one of his better decision in his career.

It was attached to my old 14.4 volt DeWalt. Figured if it didn't have enough life in it to drive sheet metal screws than I should be safe..... guess not.

FrodoB: Welcome to the festivities! Your trimmer predates mine. (got mine in the 1960s and it wasn't new then) Other than the handle style, the new ones look the same and work as well. You may have the simplest and best case trimmer out there (IMHO) Not the fastest but probably the most accurate. All you have to do is clean it up and add a drop of oil to the cutter barrel once in a while for a lifetime of service. (and more)

Thanks, Binky! I've been impressed with what I've seen of these online, looking forward to getting it in shape and to work. 308 case holders on the way, just wondered about those that came with it, since Wilson doesn't have them listed for sale now. Besides the handle difference, the base has 'WB' stamped on the side and is drilled to allow a bolt or screw to attach it to a bench.

The 257 Roberts and the 7mm mauser are similar cases and the holder will also hold the 6mm Remington (same 7x57 case family) The 276 is now a historical footnote. (but you know that) Several other makers made a similar trimmer and their holders work fine in the Wilson version.(I have a C&H, marked in 222) In years past some of the Wilson case holders were marked with several different case (30-06 and 270 being one holder) but I am not sure that they still do this as all I have bought recently are marked with a single caliber. Once you buy a case holder, unless you loose it, you will never need to replace it as there is no wear. I got a 30-06 with mine when I bought it and after 50+ years it still works fine.

For the 1000th time the guy's name was Pedersen !Apologies - you are of course correct. The memory of the man deserves respect.

Shoot, I thought I did good using a 'd' instead of a 't'!

Binky - many that I have seen new at Wilson's site still have multiple calibers, but some have separate 'New' and 'Fired' case holders as well. Found one of each for my .308/7.62x51.

The cutting shaft diameter is different on the old ones with the bent handle vs the new ones. Also the holes in the base will not line up with the Sinclair stands.
