I am cutting the forcing cone to 11 deg on my Ruger BH 45C. Does this look too deep, not deep enough or just right?

I think it looks pretty good. It is my understanding that you want to go just deep enough so that you don’t have two different angles.

That looks good. You don't want to cut it so that the fire ring is made narrower..

Thanks. Now I just need to find some time, and better weather, to get out and see how it shoots.

If you don't have the Brownell min-max forcing cone gage, an expedient I use if that a sized case mouth should just enter the forcing cone entrance.
A fired case ideally should not, but if the cone is just a wee bit large it hurts little as long as the barrel wall is heavy enough to avoid heat cracking.

My .44-40 Ruger Vaquero came with a forcing cone so big that a .45 Colt slug will enter!

Nice to know. I haven’t heard that one before.

That is good to know. I'll have to check it, although I don't have any 45C loaded up right now. Hmm, seems like a good reason to head to the reloading bench. Yeah I know I could just use s bullet, but...

To finish it out polish it to a shine with Tripoli polish and a lap. The smoother it is the better.

There's always something more! I thought of getting the brass lap with the kit, now I'll probably have to!

That's the flat area on the rear of the barrel.
