Initial results are promising. Shoots .32 long and magnums pretty well. I am pleased. Don't know if I will load .327's or not.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190119/b24032adc5b968c9a00c93126bc61680.jpg

I have one of those, and I like it. Haven't loaded any 327's yet, still playing with 32 mags. Just looking for a woods carry gun.

I have one like the OP's. In my gun I have found that I get the best accuracy using 327 starline brass.I have tried 32H&R Federal brass and have never been able to get the same accuracy as the 327 brass.I only shoot lite loads in my SP101.My favorite load is 3.7 grs. of Bullseye using a NOE copy of the RCBS 103 gr. boolit.

Your off to a good start. Now you have to remember you need another for the other hand.

A man--or woman--could do a heck of a lot worse. I have one and think it a dandy, but a set of springs and shims really make it shine.

Agreed, a shim kit and wolf sping kit help a lot. Also a pretty easy revolver to break down and polish up trigger parts. I even took a ceramic to the SA sear.

The spring kit was a game changer for the gun.

For ammo, it really does shoot better with 327 brass.

I load everything from 55 gr pop gun loads to palm slappers in 327 cases.

With the .327 magnum revolvers, you would get better accuracy using .327 cases. It moves the bullets more closely to the barrel and rifling thus reducing the bullet jump effects.

I have 2 of the SP-101's in 327. They shine, as the old timers used to say. I have never tried them with anything less than full power 327's. I have a plethora of 32 revolvers chambered for the older 32 revolver cartridges, consequently the new stainless guns see only what they are labeled for.

i've got the big 8 shot Blackhawk in 327 and it is most respectable with those warmish loads i like. The DA Ruger the OP found will also be a strong platform for the caliber and should serve him quite well. FWIW, my other 327, the custom K-frame S&W, gets more of the mild loads in 32 Long and H&R.

Don't worry. You can quit .32's any time you want. Just ask anyone here.

I quit successfully! It took a lot of effort and a year of withdrawal, but, I finally let go.

Each time I go to the range or reloading bench the effects are less and less. Not having to find those small cases tossed about at the range, or fumbling with those tiny cases and bullets when reloading. :)

If I still went out after jackrabbits I'd probably have kept that 1903.

Very nice Colt. Deleted rest of the post because it had nothing to do with the OP's post.

32 H&R is a good cartridge, but the smile factor goes all to 327 federal. Having previously shot 32 acp, I didn't expect 32 S&W long to be much more. After shooting some boomer 327 federal loads, I tried 32 s&w. My uncle had bought a single seven with a bunch off ammo, and some 32 s&w magtech ammo was in there. He made a comment how it must be good, as the poor guy had paid $32 for a box. The first shot went pfffeh. My uncle and I laughed for a good minute before checking that the bullet did actually make it out of the barrel. I think it's just a bad batch of ammo, although it is comical just how big of a step up full power 327 federal ammo can be. It does seem that 327 ammo is more accurate than 32 h&r when used in a 327 chamber, although I'm sure there are plenty of ways to work around it. It is only an extra .125" gap.

If your talking about 32sw the short ones then pfffeh is bout right heard cap guns louder. But they are fun to shoot very little powder and lead and guns can be had really cheap. The sw lemon squeezer can get a little pricey if you want an hr ivor johnson us arms ect. They can be had in good shape for well under 100 dollars on gunbroker. Have a shelf full of them in safe.

I enjoy my SP-101 x 4.2' in 327 Federal very much. I load full-tilt eardrum-splitters and "32 S&W Long +P" (RCBS 32-98-SWC @ 950 FPS) mostly, both are VERY accurate loads. I have a Wolff kit sitting on the work table, and I will get around to installing it eventually. The D/A and S/A trigger strokes are smoothing out over time.

I had the SP101 in .32 Mag out today. RCBS 32-098 over 3.5 gr. Universal. Shot great! 7yds a ragged hole.

32 H&R is a good cartridge, but the smile factor goes all to 327 federal.

Depends on how you look at it. At 4.0grs of Unique an 8lb keg will load 14,000 rounds. At 3.0gr Red Dot a similar keg will load over 18,500. That makes me smile quite a bit

Those loads will work in 327, you might have to bump up a grain to match the speed. 32 h&r mag is a good cartridge, but I'm always smiling at the range, at least on good days. The smile factor is when the other guys shooting come over to see what the big boom with no recoil is about.

Nobody cares when you are shooting 32 h&r mag, which can be a good or bad thing.

The 32 H&R was designed in part by the folks @ H&R with the inherent strength limitations of their guns in mind. I sometimes refer to the cartridge as the “32 Magnum-wannabe” because of this. If the current 327 Federal Magnum revolver cartridge in suitably strong guns from S&W and Ruger had been introduced back then in the late 1980s, I feel like they would have been an unqualified success. JMHO, of course, but I see the interest this kind of discussion brings about.

Back in "94 Ed Harris did some serious testing with jacketed bullets in the 32 H&R. He also had his loads pressure tested by the HP White Lab. He found loads upwards of 30,000 psi to be safe in his Ruger SS and loads in the 30,000+ psi range safe in his Ruger SP101 revolver. I've a Ruger 1st run SS with 6 1/2" barrel. I also have a 10" Contender barrel that I pressure test with using the Oehler m43 PBL.

I've found with the "+P" level loads up to 27 - 28,000 psi the Lyman 313631 GC'd 105 gr SWC (designed for the 32 H&R) proves to be an excellent perform in the 1290 - 1400 fps range.

Hey Larry, have you tried any of the Sierra half jacketed 110 grain bullets that were designed for 30 Carbine? In some 32 H&R chambered guns they shoot pretty well, and since I had a couple of boxes kicking around from some long-forgotten deal, I had them available to use up. Not the best in ALL 32 revolvers, but pretty good in some! IIRC, I even shot a few of them in my late, lamented Blackhawk Buckeye Special in the 32 H&R cylinder. It's amazing what kind of trouble we can get into with too much time on our hands! ;)

Froggie

PS I had an old 32 RF low wall that we rechambered and converted to CF. That old relic loved those half jacketed bullets. :D

I don't know if there's a cure, but I'm in remission, I haven't bought a .32 revolver in some time. Of course, I'm subject to relapse at any moment. :bigsmyl2:

Let's not talk about .32 bullet molds though. :veryconfu

NZ, I've come to the conclusion that I will never be able to find/afford any of the 32s I still want, so I guess I'll have to just periodically build another one. I have the two I speak of so often and there is already one "in the pipeline" to the point where parts are being accumulated and 'smithing is being negotiated. [smilie=w:

As for moulds... you've touched a nerve. I've settled on two and three cavity moulds to speed production without extreme weight to fatigue me. In 32 pistol moulds I have gotten the three Ideal moulds I like best in DC configuration and I think I've got one more really nice candidate stashed in my stuff. I've also got a couple each of NOE and MP including a couple in brass. Finally, there are a couple of old classic round nose moulds made to go in the antique S&W reloading sets if I decide I need an old school round nose. The point is, now it takes something special to attract me to another mould... but of course that is subject to change! ;)

I would blush if I had to actually enumerate the .32 pistol molds I have. Especially if the wife saw the list...

I've been a fan of your builds, and I've contemplated a few similar projects myself. At the moment I remain pretty happy with my small stable of wheel guns and rifles... but temptation isn't a hard thing to come by.

NZ, “...temptation isn’t a hard thing to come by” you say? Rather, I say “Temptation is a hard thing to get by!” Btw, I just listed the moulds I’m admitting to.. Then again, don’t get me started on 32 Rifle Bullet moulds!

You’re absolutely right... my DA revolver in 327 is a K-frame Smith, and my SA is the 8 shot Blackhawk... “getting more out of a 32 revolver than our forefathers would have ever believed possible!”

I always enjoy my time with this 1941 Colt Officers Model, 6" Heavy Barrel. The load that I use is Starline 32 S&W Long brass, Missouri 98 grain .313 DEWC with Hi-Tek coating, HP-38 @ 2.0 grains, and Federal Gold Medal small pistol primers.235125
