So I just bought a Winchester 1887 and was wondering what laods to use for it? I made my own shells out of 2 3/4 ones, I cut the crimp off, switched the powder and roll crimped them back. Sadly they have feeding issues since they are to short with the roll crimp, but I just want to see how the gun shoots so they will be fine for now. I ordered Brass shells to fix this problem! :p
( I know it got blued)

Blued is much nicer than bomber can camo paint. Pretty shotgun. I would love to have one like it. You might try one of those brass crimp starters that BPI sells so you can fold crimp your shortened hulls. Gp

I would be very cautious with anything stronger than a black powder load in this gun. These were built and designed for black powder and smokeless acts different than black even if loaded to the same velocity. Just saying, be careful. Would hate to see such a nice gun wrecked and you get hurt.

Always liked how these worked and looked, so I bought a new repo imported by IAC. The imports shoot 2.75" shells.

You can buy ready made 2 1/2” shells from RST and they’re loaded in pressure levels that are okay for damascus or steel twist .

Wow.. what a sweetheart!!! BP is the way to go for this old gal. Few drams in a brass 2 1/2 shell will be sooooo cool..I am so Jealous...

You would have to be cutting off much more than the crimp on the 2 3/4 shells or are trying to fold crimp the shortened shells. Fold crimping wasn't invented in 1887.

Back in the day it was brass shells. I cut the crimp off and roll crimp the shells, They work so far.
