Hi you all!!
Gotta say... I just yesterday signed In and I'm hooked, lots of great info here. Been reading every moment I've had time.
But to the point.
I have a ASM In 45 colt with 7,5inch barrel.
I Wonder if any of you guys have load data for vihtavuori powder with 260grn cast boolit?

Greetings from finnish lappland. (Living next To Santa claus, that guy is hilarious at summer) .

Have you checked their web site for data?

Although I don't use vihtavuori powder, look at their web page as Dusty pointed out. Looks like the heaviest boolit they list for 45 Colt is a 250 gr.

OK, after looking at the Lyman 4th Ed. Handbook they list:

Lyman 452424 (255 gr.) with N320 Start: 5.8 gr @ 692 fps and Max: 6.7 gr. @ 841 fps (no pressure listed)

RCBS 452-270-SAA (270 gr.) with N320 Start: 5.0 gr. 10,300 psi @ 675 fps and Max 6.3 gr. 13,800 psi @ 813 fps.

Welcome! Hope this helps. Best of luck.

Welcome to the forum.
Vihtavouori is one of the more expensive powders over here, and not used as much as some of the domestic powders. But there are those who do use it, and someone can probably help.

Thank you. :)
Vv i domestic powder here and it costs a lot... In sweden it is cheaper so lucky I live fairly close to border. Hodgdon on the otherhand would be nice but the price... App. 110€/pound. Translates to 125$.

I've done quite a bit of testing (pressure, velocity and accuracy in SAA and rifles) of Tin Star VV N32C under 200 and 250 gr cast in the 45 Colt. For your 260 gr cast I suggest a N32C start load of 7.5 gr and work up to a max load of 9 gr. For use in my Uberti SAAs with a 250 gr cast bullet a load of 8.2 gr is what I found to give 850 fps out of the 5" barreled Artillery model with excellent accuracy. PSI was just about the same as the iconic 8.5 gr load of Unique.

I’ve contacted Vihtavuori and they say they don’t have any data for cast boolits. You will just have to experiment. Cast boolits don’t necessarily behave the same as jacketed. Here’s a link to a powder convention chart, if you don’t already have one. These are just to give you an idea, you won’t get exactly the same results from powder to powder.

Hi. Thanks Greg. Didn't have that one. But I have this vihtavuori app for loading data and there are few lines for Gunhill bullets.. or rather boolits... They are cast ones.

Thanks Larry. I have once tried tin star before and I was not too impressed. It was winter time then tho so I might have it a go again next summer.

Tell me about it... See why I've had only two cans of H powder ever. It was great for trapdoor but money....
