Ok, the additional info helps a bit.
I shoot USPSA,, and I'm a NRA instructor. First & foremost,, I'd say; "It has to fit YOUR hands" as a main requirement. How long are your fingers when you have to reach your release? If you look at your factory one,, study the shape as compared to the Hogue ones.
And since it appears you are looking at informal target shooting & not competition,, either one may work. In competition, we try hard to not lose our hand position when gripping,, so we do all the little things to try & make that happen.
I shoot a S&W 646 and I went with a longer extended one to facilitate faster loading, and to position it where I don't shift my grip as much. Plus, it allows me a reference point in my grip to try & return to the same hold.
So, study your factory one,, try & compare the Hogues, (especially if you have a gun shop with both you can handle,) to see what will fit your hand the best.
And if in doubt,, and had to buy one on a guess,,, I'd go longer vs shorter.

I have long ones on my USPSA guns. Push with my thumb while pushing the cylinder open with my trigger finger. Also reshaped them, rounded and relieved. I would never put one on a gun I wasn't reloading at speeds.
