I loaded up some rounds, with PC boolets, for my Chassepot.
Did't work all that well.
Accuracy was OK, but without the lube, the fouling was bad.
I'm thinking the lube keeps the fouling soft, and not flaky.

In my experience I can't use the BP without lube in my rifles and revolvers, 1p of beeswas and 2p (or more), of tallow.

Yeah....that's what BP lubes do.

I thought that maybe the paper would take the place of the lube.
Like a paper patch boolet.
Just didn't work for me.
At least I tried.
Learned something new.

isn't the paper cartridge tip around the bullet supposed to be lubricated?

or send me the little old chassepot and those bullets and ill do load development for you.

Why cant you use PC boolits with a grease cookie. That should take care of the fouling issue.

BP lube has several functions it does and a good loading is a balance.
1) the lube does lubricate the bullet and help prevent leading
2) the lube also helps to seal the bullet to bore reducing gas cutting and blow by.
3) it keeps fouling soft and manageable in the bore
4) it acts as a preservative in the bore with the waxes and tallows and oil.

When the lube charge and everything is in "balance" the was under the bullet wipes scrapes a lot of the soft fouling from the bore barrel.

I just shot some powder coated 405 HB lubed with Goex and worked very well.
