Today I received my Henry ss rifle barrel after been rebored to 358 win by Jes.
I’ve got the 3-groove rifling in 1:12” per turn. I can’t wait to test for some good loads.
My rifle started as a 308 win and it had a taper muzzle that measured 0.56”. I contacted Jes and he said that it seems to be fine to rebore to 358 win. Although, he had not done a Henry rifle yet. I sent it anyway and the rest is history. He did mention that he did mine an another Henry lever gun to 358 win too. I have to guess it is the magazine fed lever gun like the Browning BLR type rifle.
This is my first rebored rifle and I am going to make it my favorite.

.

Very nice - I only hope that the Henry Single-Shot isn't light enough to make the recoil uncomfortable.

I have a CVA scout that started life as a .357 Mag. A local smith reamed the chamber to .358.

It is painful to shoot factory level loads in. I load it to .35 rem pressures with 200 gr. RCBS rnfps. That's all I need in the wood here.

It is actually heavier than other rifles I have. I am recoil sensitive but When I am hunting, I don’t remember how loud or how har it kicked [emoji1]
My plan is to use it for cast boolits 98% of the time.

I have not yet bought factory ammo in 358 win. All my ammo is loaded to my tolerances ( I had been shooting my BLR in 358 w). All my cases are sized from the 308 win

Many of us wish CVA built a scout in 357 mag. Was your a stubbed rifle ?

My bad, oltztymers has set in. My CVA Hunter was shipped as a .35 Remington.

My Scout is a 14" pistol that began life as a .357 mag and is now a .357 Maximum

Sorry for the confusion. I also have a .357 Mag Handi that I sent to David White. He reamed it to .357 Max, bobbed the barrel to 16.5" and reduced the trigger pull to 3#. With a Weaver 4X, it shoots sub MOA with 185 XTPs at close to 2K. With cast bullets at 13-1400 fps, it is just as accurate.

Now, with Henry shipping single shots in .357 mag. it would be far easier to get a Max for a lot less money that I spent on my Handi Max.

Mike Bellim @ 357 max has a couple of newsletters on Henry .357 'Max' conversions. You can order your rifle thru his son, and he will ship your max converted rifle directly to your FFL Gunsmith. Looks promising to me?

Took the new rebored 358 win Henry ss rifle today to get it sighted in.
I used some cast reloads that I use for my Browning BLR.
I was very quickly on target and the load was just as good for the Henry as it was for the BLR.
Jes Rebore works great! I can’t believe I did not do it long ago.
My cast load recipe:
204gr Lee gc rf
19.5gr Blue Dot
CCI-200 LRP
1860 fps

I have another (better) load for my BLR but I did not have any of that at hand. I am curious how that will perform. It is the same components except the powder: 39.0gr of LeveRevolution.
I will try that next.

It is my favorite caliber for cast boolits.
I will try it with j-words just to see how it does; but cast is my first choice.
