just wondering if the new style of fluted type self defence projectiles would work cast with a hard alloy and water quenched. they aren't designed to expand.

The design is most effective at speeds higher than usually obtainable with cast handgun. Magnum type cartridges could be the exception.

It would be a real bugger making a mold too! :)

I push my water quenched, pc'ed .308 boolits 2200 fps and have no leading. I think a lee type die would work.
I wish someone would make one for me.

THe problem I see is with the mould itself the 3 flutes wont allow an "even" spacing in the blocks making a mechanical lock when the bullet cools. Swaging them would be possible though. A swaging die to form the flutes would be interesting as a hard cast bullet could be used for the core. The machining for the flutes would be tricky. If you wanted to powder coat then a mould similar to the old Ideal perfection could be made with the flutes in the nose punch.

Savage you did say Lehigh. The light weight polymer style is what I was thinking. Ruger ARX type.

Has anyone ever made a 3 sided single cavity mould? I imagine it looking like an old style wheel puller

To be honest, the cost of the mold would all be focused on the aggravation caused by design and machining it.

Would most likely need to be a 4 piece design. the 3 pieces forming the bullet held inside a ring. overall would look like a witworth mold.

I thought that was the 3 sided APX POLYMER. I get it now.

The 4 sided symmetry could probably be accomplished with a pin type. No one will touch it, save China, because of the patent

Made ... No
But I have 2 - 3 sided molds I used to use to make for snagging
They used a 10/0 treble hook and 4 oz of lead

Easy to use , but slow if you are spoiled by 6 gang molds LOL

I was thinking 4 petals so 2 of them would be in the middle where the mold block splits
and the other 2 in the middle of each side of the mold .

I think country gent had the easiest solution with a custom nose pin. Is this for a handgun? or Rifle?

Those flutes will be bosses in the mould. ( moulds are mirror image) So with 1 on each parting line Half each block you have an effective mechanical lock and wont be able to open the mould up once filled and cooled.
