Hi guys. I'm thinking of picking up one of these moulds and loading the boolits in a .22 Hornet. Has anyone tried them? They look to be on the upper end of weight for the Hornet but being all lead and not too pointy I reckon they should work? I guess the key question would be can they be loaded in a CZ527 magazine or are they too long?

I'd appreciate some user feedback if anyone can share their experiences. Thanks

I don't have that mold but I had tried a 55 grain round nose in my Hornet Single Shot. It didn't shoot worth a hoot. The twist was all wrong. Check the twist of your gun.....it may be too slow for that weight. But then again......most anything is worth a try.

Definitely check the twist rate of your barrel before buying the mold. 40 gr. Sierra JSPs produce 1"-1 1/2" 100-yd groups from my old Ruger #3 but 55 gr. JHPs won't do any better than 4"-5" off sandbags.

I've shot the RCBS 55gr boolit in my 16 twist hornet and while not super accurate, all boolits made round holes. That boolit has a flat nose so maybe that helps. Then again, that same rifle shoots Hornady 62gr spire point flat bases with scary accuracy and at distance. My standard bullet is a 55gr flat base. I surmise the bullet is not being destabilized by muzzle blast.

I should add that I drive those bullets hard - 2740 fps for the 55gr.

Interesting. I just commented on that mold on a different thread this morning for the same reason you did. Looking for more chimes about this combo for future reference. You musta read my mind !

My two hornets (old ones with 16" twist) shoot that boolit reasonably well, though they still like my old Lyman .225462 round-nosed 60 grain boolit better. I have popped numerous sage rats with that Lee boolit the past couple years as it is so much nicer to produce boolits from a 6-cavity mould rather than the old single cavity I am willing to tolerate a little less in the precision department. My loads are in the 2300 - 2400 fps range using Lil' Gun, Linotype.

Can't say anything about the hornet. But I do shoot it out of a savage bolt action .223. Over 3.5 grains of tightgroup.

It is a hole puncher
