i have a 230gr mold (made for 300blk subsonic i suppose) that i am considering making some plinking rounds for to push out of a 308 win.

i'm not sure what kind of safety concerns there are.. or why.. my initial thought is..

1. they wont go fast (meh, just looking for plinking trigger time anyway)
2. will go too slow, dont have to be subsonic.. just dont want a pipe bomb
3. will become a pipe bomb because 230g is too much. it's only raited for 208gr..

i dont really FEAR any of the three above but.. thats why i'm asking. i feel like i'm overlooking something that could be dangerous.

anyone have experience/feedback on loading 230gr out of 308 or.. heavier bullets than "normal" for example?

Sure, works great as long as you have fast enough twist. 1:10 will stabilize a 240gr. Cast bullet. I use Trailboss powder and load them to 950-1000 fps to keep it quiet. Super accurate, like a giant pellet gun.

A buddy used to shoot long range with a .308 and shot 210-215 gr J-words at high velocities for the weight. The barrel was 1:10 twist. No issues at all. When he gor a 6.5 Creedmoor he had the .308 rechambered to .300 Win Mag to better launch the heavy Bergers and VLDs.

Have you tried any of our suggestions yet. I regularly shoot 220grain using pistol powders. My favorite is 10.5 grains of unique with 220 grain cast projectile (without gas check) in a 98 Mauser in 308 seated long and lubed with Bens Red. I get good accuracy (1.5 inch) at 100 yards. Nice and quiet.
