Hello,
I am picking up a .358 hoosier Handi rifle.
I was wanting to know what is the best mold to get started with?
I was also wanting to find a source for a die set and maybe brass.
Thanks

Not familiar with the Indiana Wildcats. With 35 caliber hunting cartridges the 35-200 RCBS is the benchmark Bullet.Several mold makers offer clones NOE being one. I personally like iron and brass molds. Ideal mold in my mind would be an RCBS mold with one cavity hollowpointed by erik@hollowpointmold.com A quick Google search located the Shop that developed the Cartridge. A call will answer your brass and dies question.

Forgot to mention another option is a closed group buy for a M&P 35-200 grain RCBS clone. Has not been run on the machines yet. Still a chance you could get your name on the list. M&P Molds are Cramer style with replacable pins. User has the option to cast FP or various HP’s at the same time. This mold is the ultimate 35 caliber bullet. M&P Molds are probably the best manufactured mold available

AFAIK the rounds can easily be made from 308 and 358 Win...I believe Hornady makes dies, I would imagine others do as well...

I checked with Hornady a year or so back and they said they would make a 358 Hoosier die set for $170.

Unless the handi is a stub barrel or rebore it is probably a 357 not a 358. A rechambered 357 mag handi would be the cheap way to go to 358 hoosier. I used a 358 hoosier reamer to rechamber a 35 cal marlin 336 barrel to 358 hoosier. Reamer had a fixed pilot and worked fine.

Texas,

Yes, Indiana DEM rule cartridge. The cartridge is not well supported since IDEM legalized common bottle neck cartridges on private land. The 358 is still a good option if you hunt Indiana public lands. The 358 hoosier is a 358 win with a short shoulder and neck. Brass length is 1.8" maximum.

I just cut my 358 Winchester brass back to 358 Hoosier max length and loaded it with that 358Win die set. The neck of the brass is short but it seated the 200gr .358 Lyman Roundnose rifle bullet and the 160gr 358311 RN pistol bullet fine and it didn't mean that I had trim off the back of my barrel and recut my 358Win chamber to the smaller 358 Hoosier cartridge.

You might consider re-cutting the chamber back to a more normal cartridge also. ;)
