Well that sounds like getting in there real close. Wonder how fast he was pulling on that trigger ?

At that range I'd have been standing there afterwards still going clickclickclickclick! Or maybe I'd still be running, I still have night mares from an encounter with a bear as a child.

1241 the first day! That’s a lot of bear greese. The real stuff. Just render some down and there’s nothing better to protect your boots or other leather.

 Don`t know how fast he was pulling the trigger,BUT I would bet that bear would have been slipping and sliding in the exhaust discharge from that feller.
Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.

About 10 years ago one of the guys in the area of Pa. I hunt dropped a 608 pounder... I saw the bear and it was the size of a medium size cow.

The average Pa. bear runs less than half this one... I think he was very fortunate that the bear was so close so a precise shot could be made...if that bear was 50 yards out the outcome would have probably been a lot different...

No doubt a 357 can and did get the job done, but if it were me handgun hunting where there was a chance to bag a larger than average size Bear I believe a 44 magnum, 454 casul or something larger would be better. When you are dealing with something that could just as well walk up and have YOU for dinner I'd rather use something with a little more umph!

This is why I carry a 35 Remington during the concurrent deer/bear seasons. Once bear drops out I carry an 1894C in 357 for the remainder of the deer season. I have little doubt the 1894C would be enough for bear. But I’d rather have a little more power just in case.

A good friend of mine is a wildlife control guy. He has to shoot a lot of coastal black bear. He often uses a .44 mag revolver with very good results. As with anything, it's all about shot placement. Clearly a .357 can take them down, but personally I'd feel a lot better with a .44 at least.
