scaled gewehr 71?

I bought a rifle action off a gunsmith
it looks like a small g71 action without the disassembly screw
it's got German proof marks, crown B and crown U, the serial number 6, with VI on most of the parts, and 'C.S.' on the bottom of the receiver
the threads are about m25-1.5mm or so
what is it?

I know That Mauser made a Scaled down 11mm Cartridge called 11.15x37R Grenzaufseher( Border Police). this was used for the mounted force in Germany. it is a short 11x60R Mauser. i have never seen the rifle . I do not know if the rifle was also scaled down as well. I have enclosed a photo of Case for Inspection

Dunno, the actual model designation, but I saw one of those scaled down M71 rifles chambered for the 8x42R at the range last spring. Fellow said it was in pretty sad condition when he picked it up at the Tulsa gun show but he made a winter project of cleaning it up, repairing the stock, etc. Don't recall what he formed his cases from but he said he got his dies from C4HD. 50-yd groups were more like patterns, but he was fire-forming cases that particular day. Haven't seen him lately to ask if he ever got it to come together.

The Germans did build actions on the 1871 single shot German service rifle and they were used as stalking,small game and informal target shooting and the cartridges were scaled down as well.Frank

Might be from a Christoph Schilling made rifle.
The small actions were quite popular at one time.
There was an entire Shilling family of gunmakers in Suhl.
Victor (Valentin?) Christoph Schilling was the patriarch.
Sons, nephews, brothers,ect followed. I think one son was named Christoph Shilling (CS)
**Added .He had a son named Christian (Shilling) 1836-1930,,so that could be the 'CS' maker mark on that action**
Some research may better clear that up for you but that's my recollection.

They sold actions to the trade as well. It may have left their shop as an unfinished action.
From there it could have ended up in any state of fit & finish depending on who did the work,,or refinished a number of times.
It would have that makers name or the retailers name on the gun (bbl usually). The stamp on the bottom of the action only indicates where the (raw) action was sourced from.

It would have gone thru proof & stamped as such after it was built the first time as a working firearm and before it was sold.

Nice little action,build it into a sleek rifle of deserving style.

I'm not quite sure what I'll do with it yet, but that schilling looks like a good place to start. if it wasn't case hardened, I'd consider doing some engraving

Looking at picture numerous times I think I see (may be wrong) Tig lines at rear of front ring and at rear in transition to tang. Case color break line at rear? Just curious, what are you doing with/about extractor and what caliber were you thinking?

good eye, thats a small patch of surface pitting. If I have to I'll break out the good files and some spring steel.
now that I think about it, didn't husqvarna make a 32-20 in a 71 action? model 25?

Don't recall the model numbers of the husky's but they were made in 25-20WCF, 32-20 WCF, 30-30 and 45/70. Hope this helps. Frank
