I picked this up in a trade a few years back and (having never shot it) it’s time to move it along so someone can enjoy it.

Before I put it in the classifieds I figured I’d try and find out who made it and what a fair price would be.

It’s a 58 caliber Carbine (measures 39.5 inches overall, barrel length is 23.5” muzzle to nipple) and it appears to be modeled after a “cut down” 1863 Springfield.

The only markings on the Carbine is “Cal 58 Black Powder Only”.

Anybody have any idea who made it?

Any estimates on value?

It’s in very good shape, it has been fired some (not by me) and has some handling marks from being handled and fired.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

I don't know what it is and I don't know it's value. but the caliber sounds good. I'm interested. Let us know if you get more info on it.

Probably made by Zoli. The forward band is similar to the one on the Mississippi Rifle but I am not aware of Zoli making a carbine version.

it is an carbine modeled from a 1841 rifle. some are true replicas others were made for hunting.

It's a replica of the JP Murry carbine. used by the confederate army.

I searched and couldn't find an exact match. No other markings other than "58 Cal. black powder only" and the eagle on the lock plate? Sure is a fine looking carbine though.

No idea what it is but I like it. 58 caliber is great for hunting just about everything.

That’s all there is markings wise.

The barrel is rifled and measures approximately .575” diameter (the best I could do with a pair of calipers).

I hit up the regular sites (guns international and gunbroker) and can’t find a similar carbine among the listings so establishing a fair asking price is going to a bit of a swag.

I’ll keep scratching around and see what I can find reference value but I was thinking $450.00 shipped would be fair.

There is a guy on the NSS-A forum looking for a JP Murry, you may want to sell it there.

Rimfire is correct. It is a J.P. Murray and Bilgewater Bob of the 4th VA is looking for one, I believe

murry was the name I was looking for in dark places of my mind. navy arms was the first importer. now here is the problem some people pride them selves on removing the markings on the imports. they call it defrabing. I can not see the point it does not make the gun shoot any better.

by the pics it is one of the better made ones.

That's a fine looking piece!
Knew a fellow in Louisiana in '83 that used a .58 carbine for deer hunting.
He liked the way he didn't have to trail them.
