BP grain size

I’m just getting started in BP. For the time, I m starting by loading .45-70. cartridges. I was surprised to see a lot are using 11/2F and 1F powder. I was wondering if it is the same with muzzle loaders.

The nice thing about BP handloads is that you can play with just about any BP grade/load and not have to fret about damage to the gun or shooter.

I've used both FFg (2F) & FFFg (3F) in my .45 front stuffer, and have settled on FFFg for my uses.

Fg (1F) is classically used for cannons, and may/may not pose ignition or performance issues in a smaller bore - I've no knowledge or experience with 1-1/2F.
