I've read that their rear sight dovetail is not "standard". Is this true and are there any other non standard specs?

I can't tell, but both sights use a set screw to tighten them in the dovetail. You can request a shorter front sight from Remington to bring the poi up.

I have not heard that the dovetail of the standard GI style sights is not standard. However, when they first introduced their Novak style sights, the cuts for their version of that style sight was not a Novak standard cut. But, several years ago they did change to using a Novak standard cut so that Novak sights could be used without a problem.
I'm not sure exactly when Armscor made the change, but my RIA Tactical uses Novak style sights, and it has the proper Novak cut dimensions. I got it about 4 years ago, if that helps.
