I want to remove the gas check from a RCBS 45 cal. 300g. SWC mold. Any advice on who could machine it for me?
I want a 45 310 Keith and a caster friend said why not remove the gas check from your RCBS mold. It sounds like a plan! :lovebooli

That is a good plan. I would go with Buckshot (he is on this forum under that name).

He is very reasonable, does excellent work and a gentleman to boot.

Welcome to the forum by the by.

surefire,

What part of flat land are from? I can say that as I spent some of my formative years very close to the higest spot in Nebraska, actually visited the site earlier this summerWhile visiting High Point Bison Ranch.

I thought about doing the same thing with a Lyman 311291. Have any of you done this? I want something along the lines of the Lyman 308241. I think all I would need is a milling machine and surface grinder.

Wont work. If you check his post, he wants to pick up 10gr. or so. This means boring out the mold to remove the smaller diameter gas check area, not planing off the top. A bit time consuming, having to dial in the cavity(s) before boring. Can be done on a lathe with a 4 jaw chuck and a dial indicator, or on a Bridgeport with a Co-Ax indicator.

Sorry I should have been more clear. I want to drop some weight and make a PB RN mould. I figured it would be easier to find a used 311291 than a 308241. If I did this how many grains do you think it would drop? I'm thinking only 2 or 3.
