Some of the turk 98 Mausers have a large ring receiver, with small ring threads. I have been looking for an action for a small ring thread .308 barrel, I have. Does anyone know what other 98 mausers have small ring threads?

The 1909 Peruvian Mauser also uses a small ring thread and it also has a longer threaded barrel shank that the standard 98. Roughly .750" vs .635". Basically, a 1909 Peruvian is a rebadged 1903 Turk. Standard Mauser 98 exterior dimensions(standard screw spacing), but uses an intermediate length bolt.

Unless you are set on the 98, Spanish 1916 actions are easy to get at present.

what is the Spanish 1916? large ring or small ring? what thread size. Is it strong enough for a .308? I have a new appearing .308 barrel, threaded for small ring. I don't care what action, just so it screws into it and it is strong enough.

Sarco has 1916 Spanish Mauser actions; they are Small Ring actions based on the 1893 Mauser. Someone who knows the rest will chime in. I think the 1916 in good shape will handle .308 fine.

I have a 1916 in .308 and it shoots just fine.
But I keep the loads mild.
But i use to have another 1916 that was setting back the bolt lugs into the receiver.
So I re barreled it to 8mm with a barrel I took off a Turkish 98 large ring receiver with small ring thread, that I then re barreled that large ring to 25-06 by just taking a standard 98 barrel and having the shank turned down to the small ring shank size and thread.
Both of those shoot excellent.
I would stay with the Turkish Large ring 98 , they have a small ring thread
It is much stronger, and the bolt Cocks on opening
