I wanted to put a sling on my Winchester 94, but this being an earlier gun, I didn't want to drill any holes. I looked up some leather slipover type slings, they're a bit pricey, and money is a bit tight right now so I needed to come up with something else.
Last week my wife and I visited a thrift store and I found a red thick fleece scarf that I was going to use to keep myself warm, but then I came up with an idea.
I cut off small sections, and made a loop for the front barrel band area, which I sewed together with black yard, then I made a loop in the back with a strap sewed to the back to keep it from sliding forward, all of this was stitched and double stitched to give it strength.
Then I took what was left, and folded it over four times, and stitched it the entire length. This gave it padding and thickness. I then pulled the sling through the front and rear loops and sewed it in place. It doesn't have a great deal of adjustment but it's strong, I pulled on it as hard as I could, and it's not so much as stretching. Since I wear blaze orange the color isn't that big of a deal as far as camouflage goes. The grand total for the cost? The amount of money it cost in gas to get the scarf and the other clothes we got that day and the time and yarn I had on hand.

It looks real nice...very inventive. Now I want one.... :p

I wonder how it will wash...cuz you know it will get dirty carrying it in the woods. My only concern is moisture. Make sure you remove it before putting the rifle away for any length of time.

Neccesity is the mother of invention .A good functional fix . Looks great .I have two vintage winchesters and there is no way I would modify them for a sling . This is a great idea.

When I read the title I was thinking oh NO he hooked a "tactical" single point sling on the saddle ring! So glad that wasn't the case ..Great Thinking outside the box! Good job I like it . Annnd it blends right in with the old red and black plaid wool rich hunting jackets

I have a big long old wool scarf I wear when it's cold & windy. There have been a couple times in rough country I felt the need for both hands and both feet. I ended up doing the same thing with that scarf on my old '76.
