Have a friends 98k.
He said he has shot it before.
Took it apart, and it looks like the firing pin tip broke off.
Anyone have the dimensions for it.

I would buy a replacement firing pin and then copy its Dimensions to repair the broken one you have then you will have a spare!

Put a primed case in it and see if it goes bang.

.

Milsurp Mauser 98 FP's are so cheap, it isn't worth the effort to repair one.

So...........
The firing pin in the rifle is for a m48 Mauser.
It is short, but also to long on the rear half.
I'm not sure it would have fired, unless someone added length to the front half.

Got it fixed. Maybe.
Would like to get the correct firing pin, but I got the shorter one to work.
The protrusion is a little farther out that spects, but not puncturing the primer.

There are a number of variations of Mauser firing pins. Besides the length, the cocking piece end also varies with square cut and round cut notches for the cocking piece.

I've found that the length of the rear is the main difference.
If it's to short, the gas seal will not seal.
This one was like that.
I think It would only be a problem if you had a pierced primer.
I still don't know how this rifle was firing. If it really did.

Owner said it was, but
