I have a New Ruger ranch 300 BLACKOUT that takes AR mags, I shot some loads today which loads would you use? One is a lee 150FN and the other is a 311299 NOE the lee is a 5 shot group( first picture) and the 311299 is a 10 shot group don’t pay attention to the 2 far right holes, they were sighters the 311299 is going ~1500 and the 150 is going 1750ish. Shot at 100 yards

Which one would you use for white tail for a max of 125-150 yards?

Probably the 150. Looks like some instability for the SP. Cycle some of the 150s to see if loading is damaging the nose. Energy is ~ the same @ 150 (600 ft-#), higher FPS, little less drop, energy is just above the 1k ft-# limit in some states.. 150 group size is not indicated but the horiz. stringing of the 200gr gets me to wondering. You could get the 150 up around 1900 without problems. You're close to tops with the 200.

I would use the 200 gr. 299 boolits and not give it a second thought. I have terminally tested a round nose 165 grain boolit at 1500 feet per second at 40 yards into wet compressed phone books and got 15" of penetration and an absolutely vicious wound channel when the boolit began to tumble a about 5". From those tests I concluded that that boolit would be fine out to 150 yards. Last year I took a 200#+ doe from 80 yards with a 7mm TCU and a 130 gr boolit at 1650 MV which performed magnificently. I am not sure about the instability but the target is at 100 yards.

Hello 43PU

I will be using the Lee 309 150gr FN in a 10 inch T/C contender in 30 Herrett to deer hunt with this year. I think this boolit will do well on our white tails in this area. I looked at other post on this bullet here. One member just posted about using it on a mule deer. I think that with this weight and diameter that a bullet with a good meplat in the right alloy will do more terminal damage than a bullet with a SP and it looks like it will go where you aim it.

What area are you in? I have hunted Pendelton and live in Owen co. Have used a contender in 7/30 Waters with 120gr jacketed bullets for over 30 yrs. Got the 30 Herrett this year to use cast boolits. Thought it be a nice change hunting with a cartridge that I formed the brass and cast the boolits for.
Good luck mike

Ive tried to get the 150s faster but I too off at around 1800fps if you have any data I would love to hear it

16gr H110 should do it if the alloy is hard enough. 1:7 twist? I got 2150 with 16.8 gr and a 145gr PB. 15gr is my normal 'plinker' that isn't so hard on brass.

Either one looks like dead deer to me. The 150 holes look a little cleaner to me so I might favor that load, but put it where it needs to go and you are good with either load.

Yes I have a 1/7 twist and I’m using 50/50 WW/ pure with a alum gas check sized to .310. I’m using IMR4198

The 150gr Lee fp @1800 fps worked for me last season on a cull buck. In/out, dead deer, no drama. I'd use it again certainly.
