1941 Win 94

Newbie here, first post, though I've lurked here for a while.

Just snagged at auction a reasonably healthy 1941 Win 94 in .30 WCF. After a thorough cleaning, I began stuffing boolits into cases.

Initial powders tested included 4227, 4198, 4895. All showed promise, but 20 grains of 4227 and filler behind a 150 grain HPGC by GT Bullets sized at .310 walked away from the others.

With a peep, this old gal sure enough could shoot. The below with factory semi-buckhorn:

For hunting loads with G/C cast . After many powders tried {4198 3031 4064 4320 748} I found AA-2230 gave my 94 its best 100 yrd grouping. 2230 was again outstandingly accurate in my 1899 T/D 30-30. {A noticeable difference.} The Savage did require bit more powder charge than the Win 94 preferred so to achieve its best grouping.

I concur 100% with Texas by God re IMR3031. This is my "go to" powder for most of my "older" firearms, 'specially levers in several different calibers. It works, for me, great in .30WCF, .30 Remington; .32W Spec., .32Remington;.... up to, including .38-40 and .38-55. One powder with so many caliber uses -- in both the short and long runs, it's "universality" makes it a most economical powder to keep in the magazine, too.

I had to chuckle when I read your most accurate load data. 20 gr. of IMR 4227 seems to be a magical combination for me. 20 gr. of 4227 is my preferred load in my old model Rugers, both the SBH .44 magnum and my .45 caliber BH. That load also shoots < 2" groups @ 100 yards from my Leupold scout scoped, Rossi .44 magnum. I've taken many Brazos river bottom, Texas deer and hogs, with that load from the above guns.

Now, after reading your post, I'm going to have to try it in my .30-30! Semper Fi, Treetop

Welcome, I also have a 1941 Win 94 in .30 WCF. Oldest son has it and was supposed drop it back off before I deployed last month.

This ain't good. When I began the search for a Win 1894, I naturally placed several bids on several rifles all over hell's half acre. Came to work this morning only to find an email announcing I'd just landed a 1917 sporter 1894 w/octagonal barrel. Wife will switch my legs for sure.

On the upside, my son is delighted.
