ended up with a rusty lyman mod. 61 furnace. tore everything apart, removed rust, re-blued and re-painted with high heat paint. i want to remove the spout so that i can lap it with the plug that stops the flow. i want to do this in the lathe so that everything is straight. that way i can get a good seal (it may already be a good seal, but i do not know that) how does the spout come out?? i think that it may be best to leave it alone. but in case i want to try , how?? i know that i can lap it without removing it. but, i have this problem; i like to take things apart. any advise?

I would leave it alone. I have a Lyman 61 (Saeco pot) from 1970. I don't know how many bullets it's cast over the years but it still does not leak.

You will probably regret removing the spout.I would try it and see if it leaks.

I love my Lyman 61. I have repainted it, deep cleaned, but never thought of removing the spout. It has never leaked.
