How tollerant are Mosin Nagants to larger J-words?

I spotted a bunch of .311's in a yard sale .... I assume they were destined for a .303 British.

And I started thinking ...... (dangerous) ........ I see bore specs trending upwards of .315" in some of you guy's samples.

So .... is a .311 J-word viable ...... assuming specing my own bores .........?

(I have five of them ...... an M38, 44's and two 91/30s)

The .311 are fine in the Mosin's same for the .312 bullets. If its a good price snatch them up load, shoot and be happy!

I shoot .311 and .312s in mine with excellent accuracy. RU shooter is correct; "snatch them up"!

Thank you kind sirs!

The fellow had a garage sale yesterday and his brass, bullets and dies are mostly still intact ........ but my wife bought tool chests and tools .... yes my wife ..... LOL!

And I bought some '06 brass ($.50 a pound) ........... no I don't feel guilty ...... really .....

And we exchanged phone numbers as he and his wife are heading to Arizona for the winter shortly.

If it all works out .... I will meet with him either this fall or next spring and re-new our "negiotiations".

And thanks to you folks I will be more in earnist about those .311 j-words!

Regards

The .308" Hornady 220 gr RN shoots just fine in my .314" bore M44. I think it bumps up.

Thanks Junior,

I have shot .308" Winchester Power Points to very good effect in my M38 ...........

.... and saddly, I must confess ...... I have not slugged any of my Mosins ........ I have no idea what they are as to bore size.

.310-.311" is what the Soviet bloc ammo is loaded with. Even if the grooves are quite a bit larger, the bore diameter of .300-.303" will keep the bullets aligned satisfactorily, and they may bump up on firing.

Thank you sir,

My '38 likes the .308 Win. Power points so a tighter fit should rattle around even less.

My concern as these .311's are J-words ..... that pressure might run up a bit.

When I hear from the owner of these bullets .... we do some whittling ......

No, you're not going to run up the pressure excessively with .311" bullets.

The Soviet bloc rifles I have checked are .312 "+. The only MN's with smaller bores are Finn.

M27 .310"
M28 .310"
M39 .310"
M28 .308"
Some M91's have .308", .309" or .310"

.311" bullets should be fine for all bores >310" or larger.
