Nice looking carbine. The little Ruger is on my wish list. Hoping to get one some day!

They look fun, how do they shoot? How accurate?I've shot two and owned one. At 100 yards my Super Blackhawk with a 1.5x scope was more accurate but as a close range gun they are great.

I guess my Buddy's is the exception. It won't do better then 2 inches at 50yrds. Tried 20 different loads with 12 different bullets. No luck.

Since the Ruger 44 Auto Carbine (first, tube-fed model) was developed around factory 240gr JSP's, many folks cannot equal the factory loads for accuracy via handloading, due to using different weight boolits and/or powder than commercial ammo.

Has your buddy tried factory loads in it ?

FWIW, I've owned/shot/hunted with about 5 different Ruger 44 Auto Carbines over the years, and every one of them would usually do about 1-1/2 to 2" @ 100yds with commercial 240gr JSP's.

I’ve got a keeper. 240gr Winchester White Box is 3 shots at an inch @ 100yds. However, don’t ask to put the fourth round that’s in the magazine within 6 inches of that three shot group, it just won’t happen for whatever reason. The wallop that round impacts deer, hogs, and auodad with, makes my heart smile.

I own one, and I like it a lot.
My brother owns one, and he likes his too.

I've shot them both extensively, and shot many others during our club's "sight in days."
I'd say if you have one that will consistently group 2-1/2" at 100 yards you have a very good specimen.
In my experience 3" or even 4" groups are more likely what you can expect, and that's fine for a short range deer rifle.
The cartridge limits it to roughly 100 yard hunting, and it's accurate enough for deer at that range.
It's also short, light, handy, rattlesnake quick with a proper scope, and hits like a sledge hammer out in front. The surprisingly light recoil allows near-instantaneous follow-up shots if needed.

I can't think of anything more to ask for in a short-range thick brush deer gun.

Did I mention I like mine a lot?
