Does anyone know where I could buy/order a neck size only die for 348 Winchester? RCBS won't make one up for me.

Lee will make custom collet die sets for around $50. Perhaps you need to try them to see if they will make one for you.

Since the case has a very good taper, backing off of the FL die will amount to basically the same thing.

As well as I recall, and I researched this once, CH-4D will make a custom .348 Win Neck size die but they're pricey. You might get by with neck sizing with a .357 Mag TC sizing die. I load for the .351 Self Loading occasionally and size with the .357 die and have no problems. It strikes me that the .348 Win (or at least mine is) needs about the same sizing dimensions on the neck.

Worth a try anyway./beagle

smkummer is right about the backing off of your FL die. As matter of fact I'm in the process of loading 348s for my 71 as we speak. So I sooted up a case with my BIC, backed off the die one full turn and only the neck was wiped clean by sizing.

I've read this several places. Why then are neck size only dies made? Please educate me.Thanks!

If the case has little body taper then you need a neck sizing die to avoid sizing the body. With cartridges like the 348, Hornet, and others, there is enough taper in the case body so that when you back the die off a turn or so the neck is about the only thing that is sized. Its simply a matter of the degree of body taper on the case.

Cheers,

Phil
