alot of time when i go to cowboy shoot i get a bag of molly coated bullets. can i melt them down and get the lead out of them?

will the molly coat stuff float to the top?

also old bullets i find at the range. if they have lube on them will that stuff also float to the top?

i also have bunch of old shot sinkers from trout fishing i plan on melting down.

will all this work for casting balls for my ruger?

i assume i skim this stuff off with a spoon or something?

I don't know what weapon you are casting for so I can't tell you if the resultant alloy would be right.

But, I can tell you that the moly will float to the surface of the melt if given enough time and proper fluxing.

it would be for my old army cap-n-balls. 457

the sinkers will work but the boolits will be too hard for the black powder shotman

the lube on the old bullets will act as flux and help clean your melt, but THAT alloy will be awful hard for black powder.

Just about all "gifts" of lead that are of unknown alloy mix are turned into sinkers or some other use not related to being shot from my guns.
