Well I done did it now,

480 is nothing short of freight train bad medicine but I’m ready to try the 50. Just hit the payment button on buds for a 5.5” bfr, so friggin stoked

Have fun! I'm satisfied with my 44 Magnum revolvers. That 500 JRH should be a real monster stomper!

You'll like it, probably my pick of large revolvers. If you don't have any h110/ww296 around you may want to get some. This mold has done me well lubed or powder coated.

Very nice, thanks for the tip. Gonna have to start piling brass and find something to cut them with

You can make your own brass or buy JRH stamped brass from Jack himself or Buffalo Bore.

I bought me one too. I had Beartooth bullets make me up some 440 gr hardcast. They also have some load data posted online. I haven’t shot mine yet.

For load data, you can sesrch for the 500 Wyoming express. The case capacity is the same.
You can load it anyway you want or what your pain threshold will allow. :)
I load mine with either a 400 or 440 and use imr4227. Im down at hunting camp so I don't have the load data with me.

I bought my brass from Jack Huntington, he was very pleasant on the phone and his price for brass wasn't too bad. I did cut down some 500S&W cases and they loaded just the same.

Just got in today, man it certainly is a step up from the 480. Much better grind work on the grip frame, no creep what so ever. Loading gate is stiff, but I’m sure that work loose a little. Only fault is the front sight, canted to the left a bit more than I’d like. Shame a cause everything else is beautiful. Like a nice pasta dish but with a turd cherry on top, I’ll see what mri will do tomorrow

Very nice :)
The BFR's loading gate spring is much heavier than the Ruger spring is. So it may break in a little, but your probably stuck with a heavy spring.

Front sight out of 12 o'clock position is inexcuseable on a revolver of that pedigree.

My 500 JRH is a Freedom Arms conversion by Jack Huntington.

Here's a target I shot at 52 yds rested from the top of the toneau on pickup using a 4x Leupold. Only shot 3 ea to reduce target clutter and minimize recoil induced fatigue.

Close up of the target:

https://photos.imageevent.com/paul105/hobby/large/Target%20500%20JRH%202.jpg

I've chronoed the following loads at 5 long paces from the muzzle and 60 Deg F

440gr WLNGC 10.0gr HP38 ==== 900 fps
440gr WLNGC 15.0gr HS6 ==== 1,050 fps
440gr WLNGC 14.0gr Longshot == 1,100 fps
440gr WLNGC 26.0gr IMR4227 == 1,200 fps

Have use both Fed 210 and CCI 350 primers. On the loads that I've chronoed, there is no diff in velocity.

Have used 440gr WFNGC from Cast Performance, Leadheads, and Rim Rock (they appear to be identical).

Have used bullets from 350gr Horn to 460gr Lee (advertised as 440gr) with the 15.0gr of HS6.

Never chronoed the 31.0gr H110/400gr WFNGC shown on target above, but recoil was noticeable.

My gun is sighted in for the 440gr/15.0 HS6/1,050 fps at 50 yds. If given the opportunity, will try it on an elk when the general season opens in Oct. Getting to old to enjoy the T Rex loads any more.

FWIW,

Paul

Very nice Paul, I’m going to enjoy shopping for the 50. Nice as the 480 was, you can only find so much variety, even online. Actually traded the 480 for an old three screw 45. 228037

So I shipped the bfr back to mri, they were very nice about it and should be fixed in no time.

Almost done with components
Have a 465gr LFN mountainmolds on the way
Thinking about the Lee 440, just for the price. Maybe the RCBS mold as well

Have cci300/350
Unique, h110, has-6
Should be great to start with

Harbor freight chop saw and 1.4” jig from eBay.

Last thing I need is brass then pow!

I wonder if they ever improved the ejector housing (barrel band) where it's not so sharp? Run your fingers too close and ouch....
