and apparently he doesn't know much about lead handling safety.......but 40,000 to 50,000 ingots?

40-50,000 ingots at the time of inventory/inspection! Who knows how much he has done in a lifetime!

It it happened in my area, I bet the EPA would have confiscated the lead, then charged him for removal

I always had a question about using a paper mask. Guess now i know. I've seen some hepa style respirators here locally for cheap. I might have to invest in one. Mainly for when I'm melting WW for ingots. Fumes don't seem that awful while casting. But then again I may be wrong in that assumption.

I have an exhaust fan that pulls over 200CFM from my setup and I wonder if I should get HEPA stuff too? My vac is right on my furnace (magnets) to catch any fumes etc. at source.

I'm all for caution, but relatively low temperature smelting shouldn't result in this.

What was this guy doing, casting at 1000 dF and sticking his face in the pot? Did he lick his hands clean after stacking ingots?

I quote:
"His wife's blood lead level was 11m g/dL, indicating she had not been exposed."

Seems to me the greatest danger may have been contact exposure.

Is this junk medicine?

Is not the likely cause of the elevated lead levels the ingestion of lead, i.e. through handling, and not inhalation of fumes?

Bet he was a smoker and smoked while smelting!

To get those numbers on a regular basis he had to be at this at leat 30 hours a week, he was probablely eating lunch's as he worked!

Both of these will get a lot more lead in your "pencil"!

His wife's lead level was very low suggesting it was indeed a contact issue not airbourne!

That is crazy high level in his blood. Makes me rethink how I'm going to setup my casting equipment.

WOW, are there any known natural ways to eliminate lead from your body.

IIRC, if you eat some lead and then drank some cola containing phosphoric acid as an ingredient, the phosphoric acid would combine with the lead to form lead phosphate, which is indigestable.

Works good on stones too.
