Liquid Alox

I have read about liquid alox available in larger than the Lee 4 oz bottles but cannot find the source. Anyone have it?

Alox 606-55 (a.k.a. LLA) is available in 55 gallon drums from Lubrizol.

If you are willing to pay more per gallon, it is available in 5 gallon buckets. Or at least it was a few years ago. That is enough to last several lifetimes. Alox 606-55 is not actually LLA. It must be cut with mineral spirits. 606-55 is a thick paste. I keep a new bottle of Lee Liquid Alox to help determine when the right consistency is reached. For me the right consistency is thinner than LLA.

Wiljen ran a GB on Alox 606-55-HF a couple of years ago. As I remember the HF meant that it used a low volatility solvent. I think even then it had to be cut further to be used. I could be wrong on this. I have the regular 606-55 and it is a bear to dissolve in mineral spirits. The best way I've found is to set a container in the sun and let it warm while I do other things. Just go back and stir it occasionally. If you do the math, it sounds good to get a lot of LLA for a lot less than Lee charges but if you factor in the total cost and the time involved (I didn't) you will never come out ahead unless you shoot millions of boolets.

Being an old paint guy and having used Lubrizol products the second number is probably the percent solids.

The stuff can certainly congeal to a gooey paste when it's cold, and gets quite thin and runny when hot. I blew up a bottle of LLA in my hand trying to squeeze it out when the basement was cool. it seems to be thixotropic, too. Stirring it thins it out when it's gooey.

That's what we used it for, it kept paints from running on vertical surfaces after they were sprayed.

I dont know how much you guys use of that-- It must be alot I am on my first 4oz and it has done well over 2500. It is no wonder you guys keep talking about how sticky it is.I have never had a leading problem. I have used the stick lube and its trash compared to the LTL.Iknow ther is many many of you that have loaded longer than me {43yrs} but it is the best out there shotman
