I recently acquired a barrel in a lot buy of antique muzzleloader barrels. This barrel is a 44" long .38 barrel set up for a full stock. The makers name on the top flat by the breech is worn but definitely reads GRAY the first initial is nearly completely obscured from the years of wear and rust but could be C, G or D. Does this ring any bells?

There was a William C. Gray of Greenwood and Gray, Confederate gun makers (actually businessmen) but I think all their work was marked JP Murray who was their armorer.
