Well, I have been thinking of getting a new handgun, was debating about what to get, found a used Old Model Blackhawk, but something about that gun nagged me, was going to maybe get a new Colt clone in a larger caliber. Well, last Saturday I was at a gun shop and found a used Ruger Vaquero, one of the early larger guns in .45 Colt with the 5 1/2 inch barrel. The case coloring was a bit worn off, but the action is great and the bore is excellent and the price, well, at $289 I couldn't pass it up. Guns like this don't sell here, semi autos rule and revolvers tend to be slow sellers. So I put $100 on it and hope to have it out of hock in the next week or two. Can't wait to get this gun with some handloads.

Looks like you got yourself a good Vaquero. The "case colors" never were too brilliant on the early Vaqueros. Here's a photo of mine to prove the point, the twin brother of yours except in .44-40.

Check the chamber throats after you get it home. I've owned 3 of the old vaqueros in 45 and 2 NMBH in 45. All of then had throats smaller than .451. eveven the ACP cylinder with one of the NMBH. I bought the tooling from Brownells and did them all, made a big difference when shooting cast. I don't know about jacketed, as I don't own any of them.

You can't find a used Vaquero, Blackhawk, or Single Six Magnum (.32) for less than $400 here unless they were in a house fire! Good for you!

That's a good buy on that one. Should be a great shooter.

Mines a 44 Mag, the only one I've seen in 45 Colt was priced at about $600!, I would have picked that one up in a heart beat!

Good for you, that's a $400-500 gun round here.
