I have a box of "machine cast bullets" these a 44 cal bullets. They are 128 grain of some light alloy. They look like 200 grain or so if they were lead. My question is What are these made of? is this tin, zinc,or alluminum. Are they safe to shoot? they are copper plated but seem to be real hard.

.................Most likely zinc. I will assume they're safe to shoot if they mic .428/.429".

Zinc would also be my guess as well, as it is considerably lighter then lead. My grandfather and his pop played around with zinc (washers/swaged cores/etc) alot in the 60's and 70's. Somewhere I have a few articles on zinc washers attatched to the bottom of various magnum pistol bullets, and still have a few examples about as well.

Those 128 grainers will make a nice, easy shooting 44 spcl or mag for you that won't beat you up to bad, provided they mike out at .429-.430.
