Macon Gunstocks in Missouri mills out semi-inletted new ones. They are the only place of which I'm aware that has anything at all.

I wish you luck finding one.

They tend to split at the rear of the action. The inletting was poor from the factory, and recoil drives the entire receiver back into the "Y" at the rear of the stock, splitting it.

I'm seriously considering getting a new Macon stock for my 44 Carbine, just to preserve the original. I traded into the one I've got, have maybe $400 in it. It's a ball to shoot, but I'm afraid of breaking something - the stock in particular.

What's a Macon stock? Where mine has a goofy looking filled hole is up front past the barrel clamp. Someone painted it black. Mine also has a medallion in the stock but it's nit the anniversary model. I think it's an nra medallion. Bought the rifle for $500 or $550 a few years back its really clean. Looks like it was a safe queen accept for what ever happened to the stock.

I found the site. I was hoping Boyd's would start making them again. I'm the same, would like a beater stock so I don't have to worry as well.

MPI stocks are extremely light.I have one on a 280 Ackley Improved Mark X.Recoil is interesting to say the least.They are very well made.

I was hoping for used original wood stock or a discontinued Boyd's laminate...something used that I'm not going to pay arm and a leg for. The stock I have looks like it rolled out of the factory new back in 80'. I just don't care for the painted black end cap covering the imperfection. Is there anyone that dose wood repair to the point you aren't going to see the repaired spot? It's about the size of a pencil eraser. It's almost looks like someone screwed in a sling swivel on the size of the stock and then tore it out. Then someone put in a plug and clear apoxy and sanded it flat. I stripped it down to see what happened and then repainted it again.

Looks like the makon is a $150. I did some research on it and it sounds like it's a pretty big project to fit it correctly being the company dose a poor job inletting it. How close is a 96/44 stock? I see them available everywhere.
