Has anyone made a factual comparison between the guide gun and standard 1895, 45-70 velocity, especially with heavier bullets? If so, what did you find?

Usually between 20-30 fps per inch. Brian Pierce has some data on this in an article he wrote in "Handloader" a couple years ago. Rick Jamison did a comparison in "Shooting Time" when the 450 Marlin was just out too. You can also ask around on Marlinowners and Levergunlovers forums. People there have done some tests. The 20-30 fps is the general consensus of all those sources.
My 18.5" Guide gun in 450 Marlin typically shoots about 100FPS below data that's listed for 22" barrels.

Older guide guns were also ported the new ones are not, so you loose a little there.
