I just received 3000 new .45 Auto Rim cases (please don't ask at it is all spoken for:mrgreen:).

I mention this as Starline sets up their line for specific brass, runs it and then DOESN'T for an uncertain time period (market driven). So, since I just received my brass and have been waiting for a couple of months (more or less) I thought that I would share the information to those who might be interested. They should have some available without the wait.

It sure does look good, all shiny and new[smilie=w:

Guess you can guess what I'm going to be doing the next couple of days:lol:.

Nope, 45 AR is for use in double action revolvers chambered for the 45 ACP cartridge. The rim takes the place of the moon clips.

It has one of the thickest rims ever placed on a cartridge.

odoh;
This is a bit off topic, but you can get "short" cartridges with a "proper" rim for the .45 Colt (designed to use reduced charges of Black Powder in the .45 Colt but also works well with smokeless). They are called the ".45 Cowboy Special". They are available from:

Dale,

Do you load this brass with the holy black?

I have been toying with the idea. I loaded two rounds of 45 AR with black and fired them in my ADC derringer over the chrony. Unfortunatly, the chrony reported over 4600 fps, so I sent it back home to be worked on. Felt recoil was very like my smokeless loads, however.

I have not loaded .45 Auto Rim with black.

However, the .45 Cowboy Special was designed for black, giving reduced recoil in the .45 Colt revolvers (as I remember, something like 15.0 grs of black as opposed to the .45 Colt at about 36.0 grs). That is considerably different. Of course, the Cowboy Special has the same case capacity as the .45 ACP and .45 Auto Rim.

Catshooter, was your chrony close enough to your muzzle to be triggered by the holy high speed trash from your BP load? :mrgreen:

No Nueces, it wasn't. I thought maybe so, but it gave the same readings with anything. I fired my Smith 29 at it, I was a good 20 feet back from it and it gave the same sort of reading. Chrony fixed it for free for me.

The 45 Special was developed for the CAS group to allow use of black powder without the velocity (recoil) of a full charge.

But, if you fill that little sucker with 777 and a 255 grain lead pill, watch out! Velocity is right up there with the old 45LC black powder round.

Capacity is the same as the 45 ACP/AR so I would imagine the same velocity with a full load of 777 would be possible in the AR.
