Good day everyone. I have a 50 caliber Tryon standard target (with peep sight) coming on the way to me. I know I'll have to experiment with loads but was just curious if anyone has one of these and what you find works best for you.
Cheers!

Yep. I just picked it up at the post office this afternoon. She's a 50 caliber made in 1981. In darn nice condition too.

my first BP rifle was one of those, i bought it new.
I loved the case hardened furniture, and the back action lock.

the best load i ever found was with a .490 round ball, with pillow ticking that had been washed, and 50 gr of FFF. I used it in competition for years, won many, placed in more.

I never had a chance to shoot a deer with it.

I used the same loading for all ranges out to 100 yards, it was dead on at 25, and dead on again at 100.

I was distracted one day while loading at a match, and short started the ball, but never rammed it home.
when i fired, it bulged the barrel.

I had my gunsmith shorten it to below the bulge, but it never shot the same again.

reluctantly i sold it to a friend who still owns it.

Things were such that I never got out with mine yet. Will likely be awhile before I do.
