Need suggestions for removing rust from inside action. I have been cleaning some guns for a sister in law. These were her husbands and were put away several years ago with no care. Safety on this 311 was broken off so I removed the stock to see how hard it would be to replace. This thing must have spent many wet days out as the inside is full of rust. Surprisingly he must have wiped the outside down as it doesn’t look bad. I have been soaking it in diesel then using brushes and picks to work inside but it still is frozen up. Would it hurt to use something like Evaporust to try and get the rust out and free up the parts or do I just have to keep soaking and get some disassembly instructions and clean the parts up when I get it apart?
Thanks for any ideas.

I would dilute Naval Jelly with kerosene in a container that would barely admit the action (tangs up), filled enough so that the entire forward portion of the action, back to the beginning of the tangs got submerged, and let it sit for several days to dissolve the rust.

I cleaned up a rusty 311 receiver with Evaporust. I soaked it,then scrubbed it with a Scotchbrite pad and a wire brush.I rinsed it off with water, and then sprayed it with WD-40.
I then applied Kroil to the screws, and waited for it to act. Most of the screws came out, but I broke one and had to drill and re-tap the hole.
It cleaned up OK, but it had some pitting from the rust.

Evaporust is great.
