Ok'd by swmbo, go get your self a new shootin iron (bribed her with a cedar hot tub) However the problem is, do I go with 357 mag "henry looks nice" or should I go 38-55 (found one a diamond commemorative bnib ) while looking also found a Winchester 375 Big Bore probably 95 per cent or better condition, I'm aware components are a bear to find but I think I read 38-55 if shortened might work. Really have no particular job for it just something to go range and have some fun maybe carry around for deer if mood serves no long shots here maybe 100 yrds max. Whats your thoughts? All my toys will be going to my nephew so I would like something not for me so much but to pass as a heirloom.

357 Henry

Inexpensive to shoot. Very accurate allot of fun and a smooth as silk. Will do just fine on deer. I have the brass carbine it's a fantastic rifle with excellent accuracy and function.

Personally I would go with the BB94, awesome rifle and no problem to feed at all. The short starline 38-55 btass fits it fine and the Lee 250 2 cavity shoots very well in mine. With 10 gr of Unique speed powder mine cuts clover leafs at 40 yards and feels like shooting 357. Runs about 1250 fps
Now load that on RL7 as a +p 38-55 and its death to deer, run it up towards the 375 win range and it is mastadon medicine. I stay in the 38-55 realm and under, plenty of power and mild shooting. They were very well made rifles, and "they dont make them anymore".
Only a personal opinion, but the henrys dont do anything for me and the commertive winchesters Ive had hands on are not of the quality of a 78 or so BB94. My opinion only, ymmv, and get what you like. Make memories with the young one and any of them will be a treasured reminder!

I think that the 357 would be a lot of fun to shoot and a lot cheaper a 30/30 should be on the list unless you have

Something to pass down and to use until that happens? My vote goes to the .375. Components aren't that big of a deal, I've used 38-55 Starline brass for years and they have held up incredibly well with full throttle Rx7 loads and Sierra 200grain flat points. Perfect combo if you don't like to track deer. I'd probably go with the .357 if it would be in an older Marlin Cowboy, but not with a Henry. Current production, resale value, yes but no collectors value. Just my opinion, others will differ.

Rossi has restarted production, guns are showing up at the dealers. Nothing lighter and smoother than a 92 model in .357.

I second this particularly if it is a earlier top eject model - I had one once and let it go ............................

Best solution would be to get one of each. But, if you want a plinker that's inexpensive to feed, go with the .357/.38 Sp. If you like the old timey aspect, go with the .38-55. The Win. BB .375 is a really fine, well made rifle and excellent for serious hunting. Acceptable ammo can be made using .30-30 cases, but new .375 brass is periodically available. I know, because I have 2 of them. Maybe when you're looking around you'll run across a BB .356 Win. Grab it. :-D
