Hey Guys let me blow my horn a bit.
I've won the "King of the Mountain" shoot two years in a row in Show Low, Arizona. I'm in the middle of Arizona's Elk country so I consider this a bit of an accomplishment.
Take a look at the link below

That's outstanding Jim!!
I've got inlaws in Pinetop. They keep trying to get us to go back there. Place is right by a ski lodge and I've heard of the Elk hunting and fishing that's supposed to be awesome. Wonder what a out of state lic and tag would cost for elk?
What's the climate there like?
I may need to have a NON california living option some day.. :mrgreen:

Pat,
Hunting & fishing in this area is pretty good. I think some of the largest elk ever harvested come from this general area.
Pinetop would be a good "base camp" for hunting in some of Arizona's best elk country. You should take up your in-laws offer and at least come for a look.
Climate here is much better than most of Arizona as elevation on the Mogollon Rim & White Mountains run from 6000 Ft up. Summers are nice except for the hordes of people from Phoenix that come up here to "cool off", of course they bring their ATV's and go into the Forests and do their best to kill themselves driving at high speeds etc.
Non Resident Hunting license run for $151.25, with fishing license it would be $225.75. Getting an Elk permit is by drawing and a Non-Resident Elk permit would be $595.00.
If you are interested take a look at the Arizona Game & Fish site at;
