Deer season is coming up and due to a busy summer I had not picked up my trysty Sharps for over a year. I took the gun and an ammo box to the range to verify the hunting sights. While shoooting I carried the rifle back and forth from the 100 yards line and boy di that gun get heavy! The rifle is a Pedersoli Sharps copy in the target version with the pistol grip stock and shootgun butt and was and is very comfortable to shoot. In checking my nootes I see that in 1984 i determined that my ideal weight of rifle for offhand work was 11 Pounds. Now I have an 11 1/2 pound Sharps that i darn near can't carry! What happened!, maybe that 11 was in metric somethings? This gun will sit in the stand this year but the 8 /12 pund 38-55 will be the gun I carry, I'll bet. Sad thing is my Hawken gun is 10.5 and it's starting to feel pretty hefty too.

Ya gotta be tough to get old, and the alternative isn't very acceptable either. I like about 6 lbs. myself.

Yeah, my brother's 243 weighs around 6 pounds. Kimber 84M feather weight? It feels like a good narrow levergun without sights, even with its 3-10X scope. Well designed walking gun. The only problem is that it kicks way too much for a 243 in that it is loaded with 100 grainer Core-Lokts at 3000 at his request. ... felix

This is why the god of thundersticks hath given us fiberglass, aluminum, fluting, and titanium.

Short, light, fast, comfortable.

You forgot to mention, "and plug ugly!"

Life's too short to shoot an ugly gun.

That's a light gun for me. M-14 and scope on a wood stock loaded runs almost 15 lbs.

BUT

I bet several of us found guns lighter to carry, heck even hold, and shoot 15 years or so ago.

I think my new hunting rule may be, that they may have to have spots to get shot if gravity continues to increase every year.

I can even still remember when my hair was the same color as "Duke Nukem's".

KCSO: The reason I sold you that Sharps is because it was too heavy for me to carry around. It shoots well, though.
