Hello friends,

I have a question about re-boring. I read a lot of posts about members here having their rifles re-bored.

When the gunsmith re-bores your rifle does he also re-stamp the new bore size on the barrel?

If you have a 30-30 re-bored to 38-55 will future owners be able to identify the change?

Thanks for your time,

Steve in N CA

yes and yes if you have same cartridge, stamping is a non-issue. otherwise, the insert can generally be seen unless extra effort is done flat face crown is tough to hide it, a 1/2 round or roll crown offers more leeway.

Both mine were restamped on barrel on top easy to see when JES did them , I have bought a few rifles that were rechambered and not stamped with new caliber , probably something I should do myself before passing them on.

Jesse Ocumpah (JES) rebored a Marlin .30-30 to .375 Winchester for me. He very neatly X'd out the .30-30 and restamped .375 Win. on the barrel. There's no question as to what caliber it is, and he did a great job, with a very quick turnaround time of less than a week.

Hope this helps.

Had a rebore by JES and a rechamber by Nonneman and both were restamped to the new round.
