What "taper" in the cylinder?

If your talking the "throat" of each chamber in a cylinder then yes it should be, within reason, smaller than the forcing cone.

What you want is a throat that matches the bore diameter! The forcing cone is just an angled entry way to help aid slightly out of time revolvers get the boolit from the chamber into the rifling without spitting a lot of lead and powder granules onto the nearby shooters!

What you don't want is a thoat that is undersized for the bore! Example: a 45 caliber revolver with a .454 barrel and cylinder throats that are .451! Boolits will be sized down to .451 upon firing and accuracy will suck!

Please take the time to read the 'sticky' on basic revolver accuracy, it
will explain a lot without someone having to rehash this commonly
asked issue for the 50th time. No offense intended, just an easier way to
get a complete explanation on this topic.
